Basics notions of how to access email accounts

How to access mailboxes via POP3 and IMAP4 or using the webmail

Mail messages from the accounts provided with Hosting Solutions services (email and hosting plans) can be consulted by means of programs installed on computers, smartphones and tablets, commonly referred to as email clients, or through web applications commonly referred to as webmail.
The most commonly used email clients are MS Outlook (Windows), Mozilla Thunderbird (Windows, Linux and others) and Mail (Mac OS).

With regard to webmail, Hosting Solutions offers 5 versions: Classic, Advanced, Horde, RoundCube and SquirrelMail. Further details on the specific configuration of each client and webmail are available in the following section of the guides Access to email accounts.

Webmails do not require any configuration and only require access credentials to log in. Email clients, on the other hand, require a number of basic parameters to be configured, including the protocol for entering (receiving) the account (POP3 or IMAP4) and the outgoing protocol (SMTP).

More details on accessing accounts and their configurations are provided in the following paragraphs:

Client access via POP3

The POP3 email client must be set up:

  • POP3 server for incoming (receiving) email: pops.interhost.com - port 995 with SSL;
  • username: your full e-mail address, for example info@domainname.extension;
  • password: the password (preferably an alphanumeric combination) set from the control panel when the account was created;
  • SMTP server for outgoing email (sending), the one indicated by your connection provider, or smtps.interhost.it - port 465 with SSL by providing the account credentials (those indicated above).

For specific sending needs, you can purchase our dedicated SMTP service that allows you to send in security and from any device (fixed or mobile), regardless of your Internet service provider.

Client access via IMAP4

Hosting Solutions also allows access to email accounts using the IMAP4 (or IMAP) protocol, a more advanced protocol than POP3, which allows you to manage synchronisation procedures, offline account access and multi-user access.

The configuration of the email client with the IMAP protocol is as follows:

  • IMAP4 server for incoming (receiving) email: imaps.interhost.it - port 993 with SSL;
  • username: your full e-mail address, for example info@domainname.extension;
  • password: the password (preferably an alphanumeric combination) set from the control panel when the account was created;

Access from Webmail

You can consult your e-mails (of the accounts purchased from Hosting Solutions) also via browser at webmail.hostingsolutions.it or from custom links such as webmail.domainname.extension.

To check the messages simply enter the login credentials, for example username (account name) and password:

  • username: the full e-mail address, e.g. info@domainname.extension;
  • password:the password (preferably an alphanumeric combination) set from the control panel when the account was created.
